Plea entered in Billings vehicular homicide case
Updated:
A Billings man charged with Vehicular Homicide pleaded not guilty in District Court Tuesday.
Matthew Kewitt, 23, appeared before Judge Russell Fagg for his arraignment on the charges that developed following the death of a baby who was delivered prematurely after the mother was injured in a car crash involving Kewitt.
Kewitt pleaded not guilty to one count of Vehicular Homicide While Under the Influence.
He also pleaded not guilty to the alternative charges to count one: One count Negligent Homicide; One count for Negligent Vehicular Assault
On March 7, Kewitt was driving a pickup truck and smashed into Alyssa Kline's car. Kline, 19, was seven months pregnant and her baby was born via emergency C-section. The preemie died nine days later at a hospital in Salt Lake City.
Kewitt is accused of being under the influence of marijuana at the time of the accident.
His bond was set at $25,000.
