Man with vast criminal past potentially linked to Cape Coral deaths

Women in Tallahassee, Palm Beach County, and Lee County have accused him of rape, kidnapping, physical assault, and theft.

Thursday, October 10th 2019, 8:14 PM EDT

Wade Steven Wilson is 25 years old and has more than a dozen criminal arrests spanning across the state of Florida.

Women in Tallahassee, Palm Beach County, and Lee County have accused him of rape, kidnapping, physical assault, and theft.

On the morning of October 8, Fort Myers police arrested him for battery. He is accused of attacking his girlfriend in front of her hair salon in Fort Myers the previous morning.

Investigators believe Wilson left from there in a black Nissan Versa and eventually ended up in Northeast Cape Coral. He is accused of burglarizing an unoccupied home and later surrendered to police.

Wilson's history of felony crimes in Florida dates back more than five years.

In 2012, Leon County Sheriff's Office arrested him for petty theft. He went on probation for it and later violated his probation it in 2013. He was then accused of committing crimes in and around Tallahassee, spending time in the Leon County Detention Center.

The jail has records for Wilson from 2012 to 2018.

In 2014, he faced charges for sexually assaulting and kidnapping a woman from a party in Leon County. A jury later found him not guilty for that crime.

In 2015, he was arrested for delinquency of a minor when he interfered with deputies trying to locate a missing minor with drug addiction. Police said Wilson verbally assaulted deputies and prevented them from helping the minor return to their family and attend drug rehab.

In 2017, Leon County Sheriff's Office arrested him again, this time records say for reckless driving.

In 2018, he was back in jail accused of trespassing.

In October 2018, he began dating a woman in Lake Worth, Florida. That woman talked about Wilson's lifestyle and what she called, 'violent nature.'

"I know a couple girls he has tied up and assaulted and put in a trunk or put in the back of a car," the woman said.

In January 2019, that girlfriend pressed charges against Wilson. She said he stole her laptop, electronics and a gun. In February, she reported Wilson kidnapped her, raped her and drove her to the Florida Keys at knife point.

"He tied me up in the back of my own car and like tied my mouth shut and my arms and legs and beat the crap out of me. I had a busted lip and a bloody nose, and he drove me from Palm Beach to the Keys tied up. He also sexually assaulted me and sold my phone so I didn't have a way to call for help," the woman said.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office never pursued Wilson for that crime. At the time of the assault, there was an active no-contact order between the woman and Wilson for the January grand theft incident.

In July 2019, Wilson showed up in Lee County where a woman he was dating at the time reported him for kidnapping and rape.

The victim later dropped the charges.

On July 31, Wilson was released from Lee County custody and returned back to Palm Beach County.

On September 18, Wilson pled guilty to pawning stolen property and grand theft for his January arrest. As a part of the plea deal, a judge credited Wilson 83 days of time served in jail and ordered 24 months of probation.

On October 7, Wilson violated his probation after police said he beat a woman he was dating in Fort Myers and broke into a vacant home in Cape Coral.

The homeowner of the Cape Coral property, Kent Amplin, lives out of state in Ohio, but he and his wife had been in their house only hours before Wilson broke into it. They left for the airport around 8 in the morning. Wilson is accused of breaking into the home shortly after.

Amplin spoke over the phone about the alarming call he received from U.S. Marshal's task force members and Cape Coral police around 10:30 p.m. on October 7.

"He said that there was someone in our house and that they had it surrounded. We gave them the telephone number to the property, and the guy inside answered. They gave us a name of Wade Wilson. I asked how they got the tip and he (the police officer) said he couldn't reveal it. I'm glad that we weren't there. I think if we were there, I would have been really upset," Amplin said.

Wilson is currently in the Lee County Jail for charges of battery, burglary, larceny and property damage.
