The family of Myles, the toddler who was swept away in the Wapiti River last week, released a thank-you message to the community of Grande Prairie on Friday.

The message came a day after RCMP found a body on a construction berm in the Peace River, 220 km downstream of where the child went missing last week on Friday evening.

"We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all the thoughts, prayers, support and donations in our time of recent tragedy," said the statement from the Letto family.

"Thank you to everyone who searched endlessly to help us recover Myles and send him to rest with our angels."

It continued: "We would like to give a huge validation to: Grande Prairie RCMP, Grande Prairie Police Dog Services, Grande Prairie Technical Search and Rescue, STARS, Greenview Search and Rescue, Grande Cache Search and Rescue, (helicopter pilot) Dennis LaFlamme, RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, River Rats, Wapiti Off-Road Association, Civilian Volunteers (and) all the community that provided donations.

"There are no words we can use to express the compassion and love that we have felt."

The letter was from Mark, Alicia, Marshall, Amelia Letto.

The family gave the message to Grande Prairie RCMP and asked them to said it to local media, RCMP Const. Melanie McIntosh said.

The tot disappeared last Friday evening when he was with his family near the Wapiti River at the Canfor Bridge south of Grande Prairie, in the MD of Greenview.

An extensive search ensued along the river, along with an outpouring of support and volunteering from residents.
