Florida man hid meth in container of 'hot, fresh potato wedges,' deputies say

Updated Jun 11 2019 01:56PM EDT

SEFFNER, Fla. (FOX 13) - A Seffner man wanted on a Polk County warrant was arrested, but deputies tacked on another charge after they found meth belonging to him - and it was mixed in with "hot, fresh potato wedges," they said.

Hillsborough County deputies conducted a traffic stop Saturday afternoon and found 48-year-old James Simpson in the passenger seat. They said there was a warrant for his arrest out of Polk County for failing to appear in court on a drug possession charge.

As one of the deputies searched the vehicle, they said he found six grams of methamphetamines inside a container filled with potato wedges.

Simpson was arrested and faces an additional drug possession in Hillsborough County.

Bike Week enthusiast has plans to develop Main Street in Daytona Beach

Posted Jun 11 2019 10:22PM EDT

Take a light stroll down Main Street in Daytona Beach and you'll see not one, not two, but many vacant buildings.

Some of them are used for temporary space during big event weeks.

"Keeping spaces empty for vendors during the events has kind of caused it to look like a ghost town every other day of the year," said Victory Tattoo Owner Bobby Ellis.

Reef mitigation nears finish line off Melbourne

The beach is a big attraction along the Space Coast, but we all know that, over time, Mother Nature takes chunks of it away.

Pumping sand onto the beach to bolster it back up again might negatively impact the reef just off shore. The News Station has an update on the project that addresses both problems. The installation of the artificial reef will be done later this summer, "probably August," according to Brevard county officials.

The county is spending more than $10 million dollars to mitigate the damage that will occur when they start dredging underwater sand and sending it onto the beaches.
