Two local doctors opioid prescription practices investigated by CPSO

Posted June 13, 2019

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) launched separate investigations earlier this year against Alliston based doctors Arthur Corbin Hendrick and Nick Dortaj in relation to their prescribing opioids.

CPSO regulates the practice of medicine in Ontario and physicians are required to be members to practice in the province. One of its key functions is to respond to concerns and to investigate complaints from members of the public about doctors in Ontario.

Dr. Hendrick, first registered in June 1979, was a member of the Alliston Family Physicians team on Parsons Road. He was being investigated "in particular with regards to his opioid prescribing."

According to the notice posted on the CPSO web site, "during the investigation, Dr. Hendrick resigned from the College and has agreed never to apply or reapply for registration as a physician in Ontario or any other jurisdiction."

"I, Dr. Hendrick, acknowledge that there has been no referral to the Discipline Committee in respect of the Investigation and that, after the College receives an original copy of this Undertaking as signed by me, no further action will be taken on the Investigation." It became effective April 25, 2019.

Dr. Dortaj, CPSO membership, first certified in May 2016, expired effective May 26, 2019, and "as a result of the investigation, Dr. Dortaj will engage in professional education in the prescribing of opioids." He had been practicing at the Carmen Vanderwater Medical Centre on Parsons Road.

At this post, no further details were confirmed, updates as more information becomes available.
