CELINA - Spotting a majestic bald eagle near the shores of Grand Lake can be an exhilarating experience.
Ohio's bald eagle population has increased dramatically in recent years, with an estimated 910 nesting pairs statewide in 2023, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The absence of foliage makes winter a great time to spot eagles improving their large nests along waterways. [More]

New Bowling Green judge has St. Marys tie
Gov. Mike DeWine has appointed Alyssa Blackburn-Dolan to the Bowling Green Municipal Court.
Blackburn-Dolan, a former lawyer with Noble, Montague & Moul of St. Marys, will assume office Jan. 2 and will be taking the seat held by Judge Mark Reddin, who is retiring on Dec. 31.

High-end restaurant to close after New Year's

CELINA - The James Watson House will close its doors after New Year's Eve, clearing the way for a new establishment called The 202 Tavern that will be run by a pair of local restauranteurs.
The James Watson House opened around June 2023, reintroducing to the community a historic, nearly 150-year-old downtown mainstay at 202 S. Main St. that at one point had fallen into disrepair and was at risk of being demolished. [More]

Celina's Dalton Chilcoat and St. Marys' Camden Rothe earned first team honors as the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association announced its Divisions II and III All-Ohio teams on Wednesday.
Chilcoat, a third-team Division III All-Ohio defensive lineman last season, earned first team honors at the position this season after earning first team All-Western Buckeye League honors on both offense and defense this season. [More]

Spending can get crazy this time of year

CELINA - Although the holiday season is well underway, it's never too late to check gift lists and make a plan before shopping.
The National Retail Federation in October forecasted that winter holiday spending was expected to grow between 2.5% and 3.5% over 2023. That equates to between $979.5 billion and $989 billion in total holiday spending in November and December, compared to $955.6 billion during the same timeframe in 2023. [More]
